MONROE PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD VACANCY
Board Trustee Larry Zimmerman announced his resignation from the Monroe Public Schools Board of Education at the June 10th meeting, following approval of his appointment to a Skilled Trades position with Monroe Public Schools. Zimmerman has served on the Board since 2018 and has held officer positions, including Board President. Prior to his Board service, Zimmerman was employed by Monroe Public Schools for 28 years in the district Print Shop.
“Our district has benefitted greatly from Larry’s commitment to our community as a Board member,” Superintendent Andrew Shaw said, “and we extend warm wishes to Larry as he returns to work for Monroe Public Schools in a new role.”
To fill the vacancy, the Board is accepting applications from district residents. Those wishing to be considered are asked to submit a letter of interest, with reasons why they want to serve on the Board, and a biography and/or resume to salzmann@monroe.k12.mi.us or to: Office of the Board of Education c/o Monroe Public Schools, 1275 N. Macomb St., Monroe, MI 48162. Letters must be received by 3 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Applicants must be registered voters residing in the Monroe Public School District. This is a temporary appointment that expires when the November 2026 elections are certified. The appointee is free to file a petition to run in the November 2026 election for one of the positions that will be open.
Interviews will be conducted on Monday, June 23, 2025, with an appointment to follow at the meeting. Questions should be directed to the Superintendent’s Office at (734) 265-3000.
