Have a Safe & Happy 4th of July!
I have added some new websites on my "Links" page. The websites contain important information about summer water safety and nutrition information for kids & parents.
Summer officially arrived on June 21!
It's been great so far but watch out for those thunderstorms that seem to pop up anytime. Today I got caught in the middle of one while trying to plant flowers! Be sure to drink plenty of water on these hot, summer days and remember...

Reminders for the Week of May 16, 2011
Henry Ford Museum/Field Trip Reminder: Please make sure that your child has returned his/her permission slip and money ($4.00). I will contact the chaperones on Monday, May 16. This is also a reminder that due to limited space on the buses, chaperones MUST drive. All students must ride the bus to the museum. However, chaperones (parent/guardian) may drive THEIR child back. Please let me know if choose to do this. There will be a meeting on Friday, May 27 at 3:30pm for all chaperones to discuss expectations for this field trip. If you are volunteering for Field Day, that is also May 27.
The Earth Expo was a great opportunity for us to share information about our various recycling projects. It was also a lot of fun to give away reusable items...FREE...thanks to the generous monetary donation from Mr. Bob Leski, MEEMIC Insurance Agent and to Meijer for donating their reusable shopping bags. Thank you also to Milkens Jewelers for donating a beautiful Pandora bracelet with a sterling silver heart chart and a $30.00 gift certificate.
Congratulations to Tina Melo-Lopez--Winner of the Pandora bracelet!
Make sure you look at the newest addition to our flag pole. Our Michigan Green School flag is now flying right along with the American Flag!
Laura Schultz Pipis, head of the local chapter of the American Red Cross, visited our class, along with Ms. Raczkowski's on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. On behalf of the American Red Cross, she accepted the $300 donation from Waterloo students. Ironically, Tuesday was the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War, a war that helped give rise to the American Red Cross since its founder, Clara Barton, tended to wounded soldiers early on in the conflict.

Did you know that today is the official, "National Start Walking Day?" During our Michigan Model Health Lesson on the Food Groups we discussed the importance of a healthy diet AND exercise. Did you know that heart disease can be preventable with exercise & diet? So today, we laced up our tennis shoes and went for a brief walk. We encountered a few rain drops but all of us felt more energized to finish our afternoon! So let's all get up and move to be 'heart healthy!'
Thank you to everyone who donated money!

Recycling Update

Ms. Pearch is thrilled that Greenfield Village recycles!
Recycling Websites
We have recycled 115 Frito-Lay chip bags, 435 juice pouches and 138 water bottles! Due to limited space, we are only collecting water bottles used by students and staff throughout the day. However, we strongly encourage everyone to recycle at home. The local Meijer Store has scheduled, convenient recycling drop-offs. Meijer recycling is every available every Wednesday. Often, these dates are listed on Waterloo's calendar.
Thank you for helping our earth!
