My story starts in 1982. You can do the math and figure out how old that makes me. As a kid, I always loved school. However, school was not always easy for me. Growing up as a Pastor's daughter, I moved around and changed schools more than the average student. Due to this, I didn't always have the most consistent education.I remember moving to a new school in first grade, and everyone seemed to be fluent readers, except for me. I hated reading and reading didn't seem to like me much either. It was a struggle every night to complete my 20 minutes of reading homework. However, my parents stood strong and we some how survived.Fast forward to the present. Now I am on the flip side of the classroom. This is my fifth year teaching fifth/sixth grade for Monroe Public Schools. Through my own personal challenges and past years of teaching, I understand that not all things come easy for all people. Each student in my classroom comes with individual strengths and struggles. As a teacher I strive to ensure all my students feel successful, even through their most difficult struggles.I love being a teacher. My classroom and students are always on my mind. I am often asked if I ever stop thinking about school. My response is always, "No." No matter if I am watching t.v. or walking through the grocery store I am always thinking about how I can incorporate ideas into my classroom.Three additional things you may not know about me…My maiden name was Southerland.I was born in Tennessee and have lived in three different states.I have a loving husband and three amazing children. (Jackson-6; Aubrey-3; Easton -4 mo.)
