MPS cancels school for Friday, December 21
As part of our community partnership with local law enforcement, there has been an increased police presence in and around every school throughout Monroe County since the incident in Connecticut last Friday. We welcome these visits to our schools, which are being done as a precaution.
The district has also been made aware of a number of rumors growing through social media regarding concerns of school safety. We have investigated every rumor and nothing has been substantiated.
However, the anxiety and disruptions to the learning in our schools that is occurring from these rumors have led to concerns of significantly decreased school attendance for tomorrow. Therefore, Monroe Public Schools will be cancelling school for Friday, December 21, 2012. Our offices will be open throughout the end of the working day today.
The determination of whether the lost instructional day will need be made up will be shared once we receive the decision from the State of Michigan.
Once again, there will be no school, tomorrow, Friday, December 21st for Monroe Public Schools.
Thank you, and have a safe and peaceful holiday break.
