Elementary Summer School Program

     Monroe Public schools offers a six-week elementary summer school program every summer from mid June through late July for students from all district elementary schools.  This program is typically held at Manor Elementary with transportation provided from various pickup spots throughout the city.  Summer classes are held Monday through Thursday from 8:15 to 12:15.  The program is staffed with certified elementary teachers and there is an assistant in each classroom.  The classes focus on mathematics and reading with some social studies and science content.  A specific curriculum desiged for a six week summer program is utlized by teachers along with a variety of other supplemental materials and activities.  A class for students whose first language is not English is also provided during this six week program.  Parents of students who are recommended by their regular classroom teachers for summer school receive letters in May informing them of their child's eligibilty to attend summer school along with registration information.  Only students who are recommended by their teachers are eligible to attend.
