Online Learning Opportunities at MHS

Are you interested in taking an online course?

Beginning in the 2011-12 school year, Monroe High School will be starting a new pilot opportunity for students who would like to take courses online toward their graduation requirements.  An online class would take the place of one of your courses during the normal school day (similar to the way dual enrollment works).  The online courses offered at MHS will be run through the University of Nebraska which is the same vendor that Monroe Virtual High School uses.  Students can take up to two online courses each trimester.

What does it take to become an online learner at MHS?

  • This opportunity is only available for Juniors and Seniors.
  • Students must have computer (tech requirements) and internet access outside of school.
  • Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • Online learners must be highly motivated, organized, and independent.
  • Students must have parental support for taking the online course.
  • Students must have transportation to get to or from school to attend his/her other face-to-face MHS courses.
  • This opportunity is NOT for credit recovery (this is not E2020).

It is important for students and parents to understand:

Online courses are very challenging and time intensive. Students should expect to spend more time on these courses than on their regular face-to-face classes.

Students complete assignments and activities in an online environment when it is convenient for them.  Students are not expected to be on the MHS campus during the class period for which they are enrolled in the online course.  All tests and quizzes must be completed in a Monroe Public Schools computer lab with an MHS proctor.  All courses are expected to be completed in the trimester in which student takes the online course.
